The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday attached properties worth Rs 2.25 crore in Kathua and Srinagar districts allegedly linked to drug peddlers.
In Kathua, the police attached immovable property comprising shops and an eatery, with an estimated value of Rs 1.25 crore, belonging to alleged drug peddler Sudesh Mehta, a resident of Chapper Morh in Kathua, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
“The property was identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation. The entire proceeding was conducted under the directions of Kathua SSP Mohita Sharma,” an official said.
During investigation, it was found that Mehta possessed immovable property at Chapper Morh, which was prima facie acquired through proceeds generated from the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
“Today, in the presence of officials of the Revenue, PWD and R&B Departments, a team led by the SDPO, Border, and SHO, Hiranagar police station, formally attached the property under the provisions of Sections 68-A 2(c) and E, read with Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985,” the official said.
“Kathua police remain committed to their sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and reiterate their resolve to make the district drug-free by targeting both narcotics networks and illegally acquired assets of drug offenders,” the official added.
Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan’, the Srinagar police attached an immovable property belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Anantnag district in connection with a narcotics case registered in Srinagar.
The attached property is a residential house belonging to Aamir Hassan, a resident of Bonpora Dupatyar, constructed at Bonpora Dupatyar in Anantnag. “The property has an estimated market value of approximately Rs 1 crore. The action was carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in connection with an FIR registered at Shergari police station, Srinagar,” an official said.
The attachment proceedings were executed in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Bijbehara, after completion of all legal formalities. “The said property shall neither be sold, transferred nor otherwise dealt with without prior permission of the competent authority,” the official said.
The police appealed to the public to cooperate and share information related to drug peddling or narcotics networks to help build a drug-free society.
