SHAH ALAM, July 18 — The second phase of rent aid for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion will be distributed next month.
State executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said census data is being updated to ensure only eligible recipients get assistance.
“This is as homes categorised as having experienced minor damage have been repaired and are habitable.
“A proposal by the state executive council will be discussed soon to decide on lengthening the duration of the rent aid,” he told Media Selangor.
In the first phase from April to June, Borhan said the state government distributed RM2.1 million to 357 victims.
“Overall, 455 victims were eligible for this aid but nearly 100 did not submit complete documents, and only three people chose to rent Rumah Selangorku under the Smart Sewa programme,” he added.
In April, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced an allocation of over RM7 million in rent aid for 613 families involved in the April 1 Petronas gas pipeline blast in Putra Heights.
Amirudin said the state would provide RM2,000 in rent aid to each family each month for six months, which is the duration in which their homes are expected to be repaired or rebuilt.
