
Rain or Shine survived Converge’s furious fourth quarter rally to stay unscathed with its sixth straight win in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Friday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Jaylen Johnson delivered solid numbers of 35 points and 21 rebounds, highlighted by five triples, including a long trey that doused cold water on the massive uprising of Converge.
Johnson’s triple heading into the final two minutes gave Rain or Shine a 114-107 lead en route to securing a new franchise-best start in a conference.
Converge continued to free fall, dropping to 1-5 overall, this despite the return of Juan Gomez de Liano and Calvin Abueva from injuries.
The win provided a perfect ending for the day as Rain or Shine retired Gabe Norwood’s No. 5 jersey of during half time.
Alec Stockton led the FiberXers with 17 points, Mikey Williams and import Kylor Kelly added 16 each.
