
World Bicycle Day was celebrated with awareness programmes and cycle rallies across Sirsa and Fatehabad districts on Wednesday, with participants promoting fitness, healthy living and environmental conservation.
At Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, the Department of Pharmacy organised an awareness programme highlighting the benefits of cycling. Students took part in activities across the campus to spread messages on health, fitness and environmental protection through the use of bicycles.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Vijay Kumar said cycling is a simple, affordable and environment-friendly mode of transport that not only improves health but also helps reduce pollution. He urged students to incorporate cycling into their daily routines and contribute towards creating a cleaner and greener environment.
Department chairperson Prof Sanju Bala said cycling is an effective way to maintain physical fitness and that such programmes play an important role in raising awareness about health and social responsibility among students. Participants also urged people to use bicycles for short-distance travel as a practical and sustainable alternative.
Meanwhile, a bicycle awareness rally was organised in Baijalpur village of Fatehabad district under the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’ campaign of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, sportspersons, young people and villagers. Participants cycled through the village, spreading awareness about physical fitness, regular exercise and environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Sports Department Deputy Superintendent Baljit Singh said increasing physical inactivity in modern lifestyles is contributing to a range of health problems. He described cycling as a simple and effective way to stay fit, reduce stress and help curb pollution.
