
- Research involving 1.7 million people by Our Future Health suggests younger generations are consuming significantly less alcohol than older cohorts.
- Only 12.9 per cent of adults aged 18 to 39 exceed the recommended limit of 14 units a week, compared to nearly 20 per cent of those in their 40s and 28.2 per cent in their 60s.
- Daily drinking is far less common among younger age groups, with under two per cent of people in their 20s drinking daily compared to nearly a quarter of those in their 80s.
- A quarter of under-40s only consume alcohol on special occasions, compared to just 13 per cent of people in their 60s.
- Alcohol Change UK highlighted that the data reflects a positive cultural shift among younger people, showing that alcohol harm is increasingly a middle and later-life issue.
