THE remains of two Filipino seafarers who died in an incident involving the MT SIDR in the Strait of Hormuz were repatriated to the Philippines on Sept. 11, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.
In a post early Friday, OWWA said it and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) received and assisted in the repatriation of the remains upon arrival in the country.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan joined the reception and processing of the remains, and expressed condolences to the families of the two seafarers.
One of the remains will be brought to the family in Laguna, and the other will be transported to Cebu, OWWA said.
The agency said it continues to coordinate with the DMW, licensed manning agency and other concerned agencies to ensure the orderly and dignified repatriation of the remains, and provide assistance to the bereaved families.
“OWWA’s care does not end with their return home,” the agency said.
OWWA said it will continue coordinating with the bereaved families through its Regional Welfare Offices to provide appropriate welfare assistance and other services based on their needs.
The agency expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the two seafarers, and paid tribute to their service and sacrifice.
“On their final journey home, we sincerely pay tribute to their service and sacrifice,” OWWA said.
