Konrad Laimer is reportedly close to having his contract renewed at German Bundesliga and Cup champions Bayern Munich.

Kicker sports magazine reported on Tuesday that the versatile Austria international and the club are close to an agreement after lengthy talks spanning half a year, with his salary said to have been the main sticking point.

“There are two positions that are currently at odds with one another. We want to extend Konni’s contract – that’s a fact. Now we have to find some way to bridge the gap between our respective expectations,” board member for sport Max Eberl said last month.

Honorary president Uli Hoeness said: "Konny is a player I rate very highly. He is extremely important to the team, and just as important to the club’s public image. He works incredibly hard for the team, but he’s simply not Maradona. And players like that have to accept that there are limits.”

Laimer, 29, has been at Bayern since 2023 and can play in midfield or as a right back. His current contract is until 2027.

An extension would continue to give Bayern two right back options, the other being Josip Stanisic.

On the left back side Bayern have Canada's Alphonso Davies, who has however had several injury setbacks. They now appear set to bolster that position with German World Cup player Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt.
