KOTA MARUDU: A retired policeman was killed in a road accident involving two vehicles at Kampung Tandek, Jalan Paya, here on Monday.
In the 1.07pm incident, Khir Ahmad, 63, who was driving a Proton Wira 1.6, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.
Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit at Kota Marudu Hospital for a post-mortem.
He said preliminary investigations found that a four-wheel-drive vehicle was travelling from Kampung Bangkau Bangkau, Pitas towards Kudat when the Proton Wira, travelling in the opposite direction from Kota Marudu town, turned right to enter the Kampung Paya junction before colliding with the front side of the four-wheel-drive vehicle.
“The driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle was unhurt, while its five passengers sustained minor injuries,” he said, adding that visibility was poor at the time, while the road surface was wet and slippery.
Simiun said investigations were ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
