Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has outlined the club's transfer plans.
The Magpies are set to play Champions League football next season after their top four Premier League finish.
While the club is hugely wealthy through its ownership by the Saudi royal family, Newcastle have a strict budget.
The Magpies cannot breach Financial Fair Play regulations from the Premier League or UEFA.
"In terms of bringing in a player, you have to be smart, shrewd and opportunistic," Reuben told the Business of Sport podcast.
"You have to be ready to pull the trigger quickly, know what you want and be strategic. A lot of thought goes into it, what you don't want is a ton of blanket offers, you have to be controlled and disciplined.
"It's definitely challenging, especially when you see the other clubs and the money they've spent. FFP means we can't do that just yet, so we have to make sure our pound goes further than Manchester City, Chelsea or Liverpool."
