Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Api-Api Division Information Chief Yee Tsai Yiew urged the GRS-BN State Government to revamp the Kota Kinabalu City Public Transportation Master Plan to better suit the demands of the people and stay up with modern trends.

“In 2012, a proposal for the Kota Kinabalu City Public Transportation Master Plan was made. Since Kota Kinabalu’s population has increased significantly over the past 10 years, I believe the Government should give the idea of installing a LRT system in the city serious consideration in order to ease traffic congestion and lessen reliance on private transportation,” she said in a statement, Thursday.

Yee, who represented the GRS in the 15th General Election and advocated the slogan “Greater Kota Kinabalu”, said this in response to Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir’s remarks on the master plan, which includes an action plan to improve the public transportation system in two phases, namely short-term planning and long-term, in the State Assembly.

According to the current actual needs, the Government could create various modifications to the Kota Kinabalu City Public Transportation Master Plan. There is still room for improvement, she noted.

She also welcomed the State Government’s initiatives to address the flooding problems in Kota Kinabalu, including the development of underground drainage system to eliminate standing water.
