- Richard Hammond has suggested there might no longer be a public “appetite” for Top Gear if the hit motoring show were launched in its original format today.
- Hammond presented the BBC series alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May between 2002 and 2015 before the trio departed.
- Top Gear went on hiatus in 2022 following a near-fatal accident involving presenter Andrew Flintoff, but the BBC plans to reboot the show.
- Hammond said that it was “a little insight into the way the average male brain works”, and he is not sure if the public would go for such a show today, saying: “It’s a completely different time.”
- He also said that it would be good to see women on shows like Top Gear, as “TV has a role to play in representation”.
