KOTA BELUD: Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic) launched the Upko Disaster Relief Fund with an initial contribution of RM100,000 during the Kadamaian People’s Convention at Kadamaian Square on Monday.
Ewon, who is also the Kadamaian Assemblyman, said the event was originally intended to launch the Kadamaian election machinery but was instead redirected to support victims of floods and landslides which have claimed lives in several districts.
He explained that the RM100,000 will be distributed through Upko divisions in affected areas to assist communities in need, stressing that the fund comes solely from internal party contributions and not public donations.
The convention, held in conjunction with Malaysia Day, brought together over 3,000 people and showcased development efforts spearheaded by Ewon in Kadamaian since 2018.
Among the projects highlighted were the construction of the Tamu Desa premises, a fast-track land surveying programme, village road access, school infrastructure upgrades, education aid, community facilities, support for houses of worship and initiatives in entrepreneurship and cooperatives.
