SOOK: The dream of Sook residents for an ultra-modern sports facilities is set to become a reality through the construction of the RM15 million Sook Sports Complex, said Sook State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup (pic) here.
He stated that the sports complex development project, which commenced on August 1 of this year, is expected to be fully completed by August 1, 2029.
“This project was one of my priorities upon being appointed as the State Assemblyman—specifically, to fast-track plans that had been initiated previously but had not been implemented.
“The smooth implementation of this new infrastructure project demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to providing the best facilities for the well-being of the people,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday.
Arthur, who is also the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), stated that the project’s development scope encompasses various sports facilities on a seven-acre site, beginning with preliminary and earthworks.
He noted that key facilities to be constructed include a main spectator grandstand that will also house administrative offices.
Additionally, the complex will feature a football field and an eight-lane synthetic track.
“To expand the available sports facilities, a covered multi-purpose court will be built, alongside an extensive parking area.
“The project also encompasses external works such as surface water drainage, perimeter fencing, a sewage treatment plant, water storage tanks, utility facilities, and site restoration,” he said.
Arthur, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pensiangan, stated that the construction of these comprehensive sports facilities is expected to further boost healthy lifestyle activities within the community, particularly among the youth.
“Once completed, this complex will serve as a primary hub for hosting various sporting events and will help unearth new talent that can bring renown to Sook on a larger stage,” he said.
