SANDAKAN: Marine police seized 87,200 sticks of smuggled cigarettes worth RM174,700 during an operation in Kampung Sinar Baru Batu 12, Sandakan, on Sunday.
The 11.40am operation, led by ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim, was carried out following a public tip-off.
The police tailed and intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting contraband.
However, the driver managed to flee the scene. The vehicle was also confiscated.
“We welcome information and cooperation from the public to report any activities that violate national laws. The marine police remain committed to combating smuggling crimes to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the country,” said Nazri.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.
