RM4.5 million assets for better patrols

LAHAD DATU: Three high performance boats received by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) and General Operation Force (GOF) are expected to boost the operational capability as well as security patrol, especially in ESS Zone.

The 12M Rigid Hull Fenders boats namely Victor 1 was handed over to Esscom while two others namely Sebatik 1 and Sebatik 2 were handed over to GOF.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said, the new assets will be deployed to the strategic zone in line with Esscom’s phase two plan in enhancing the security presence in ESS Zone.

“The project, worth about RM4.5 million under the Fourth Rolling Plan (RP4) of the 12th Malaysia Plan, was implemented to enable increased security force operations in high-risk areas including Sungai Aji Kuning, Pulau Sebatik and the waters of Tawau,” he said.

According to him, the move is also part of Esscom’s preparedness in facing cross-border threats and curbing criminal smuggling activities in the waters of the east coast of Sabah.

“The presence of these boats are expected to improve patrol efficiency, enable rapid response to potential threats and enhance coordination among the enforcement agencies,” he said.

The construction of the boats was completed by Sepanggar Shipyard Sdn Bhd.

Shamsul said this when met after officiating the Naming and Handing over of three 12M Rigid Hull Fenders Boat ceremony at Sapanggar Shipyard, here, on Saturday.

Also present was Esscom Commander, DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos.

According to Shamsul, this reflects government’s determination in safeguarding our security and sovereignty through stronger tactical readiness and better equipped frontline teams.

He also stressed that the Ministry of Home Affairs will continue to support Esscom in terms of policies, assets and human resources to ensure that the agency remains the main bastion of national security on the east coast of Sabah.

ESS Zone covers 10 districts, namely Kudat, Pitas, Kota Marudu, Beluran, Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.
