RM8.24m to empower Sabah women

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has allocated RM8.24 million to the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) to implement various women’s empowerment programmes this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the allocation covers economic development initiatives, entrepreneurial and skills training, leadership and family development, as well as product development and promotion.

He said women’s development must move in tandem with the State’s aspirations under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 Development Plan 2026-2030, with women playing a greater role in shaping Sabah’s development through their ideas, expertise, experience and leadership.

Hajiji said the State Government’s approach must progress from providing assistance to building capacity and self-reliance, ultimately enabling women to create value, wealth and employment opportunities.

Speaking at the Sabah-level Women’s Day celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here Friday, he said the Government wants more women entrepreneurs to embrace technology, digital platforms, modern marketing, market networks and financing to enable Sabah-made products to penetrate wider markets.
