A large-scale demolition drive entered its second day in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Monday, with authorities clearing around 150 structures as part of a road-widening project.

Heavy security arrangements were put in place, with paramilitary personnel and Delhi Police teams deployed across the area. Senior officials from multiple districts monitored the operation. According to officials, the action was initiated after the notice period given to occupants expired.

Central North Delhi Additional District Magistrate Rajeev Ranjan said the exercise was aimed at taking possession of government land required for widening the road.

“This is basically an acquisition drive. This is government land, but possession could not be taken since structures had been constructed here. The road has to be widened. That is why we are working to take possession of the land. Due process was followed for this,” he said.
