Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will return to one of his happiest hunting grounds on the DP World Tour later this season.

The Northern Irishman has built a remarkable record at the prestigious event over the past decade, regularly putting himself in contention.

With another appearance now locked in, attention will once again turn to whether he can add to his impressive history there.

Rory McIlroy looking forward to return

McIlroy spoke warmly about heading back to the BMW PGA Championship, where he has enjoyed so much success in the past.

“I’ve had some great results at Wentworth in the past, and I always enjoy returning to the BMW PGA Championship,” the Northern Irishman said on the DP World Tour website.

“No doubt the crowds will be out in force once again, and I’m looking forward to the week.”

Wentworth has long been one of the standout stops on the DP World Tour calendar, attracting strong fields and passionate galleries.

McIlroy has always appeared comfortable on the West Course, feeding off the atmosphere and consistently putting himself in the mix.

His commitment is also another boost for the Tour, with one of golf’s biggest names continuing to support one of its flagship events.

Rory McIlroy looking forward to return

Few players in recent history can match McIlroy’s consistency at Wentworth. He lifted the title in 2014, producing a superb final-round 66 to claim victory.

Since then, he has finished runner-up on three separate occasions, repeatedly coming within touching distance of another triumph.

In total, McIlroy boasts seven top-10 finishes at the event, underlining just how well the course suits his eye.

Whether it is his driving off the tee or his ability to attack the par-fives, Wentworth has consistently brought the best out of him.

Given that record, McIlroy will once again be considered among the favourites when he tees it up in September.
