MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine is putting premium on size as it has tapped beefy American Jaylen Johnson as its import for the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

The team made the announcement on its social media account on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old former Louisville big man served as former UAAP Most Valuable Player and Gilas young wingman Kevin Quiambao’s teammate in the Goyang Sono Skygunners in Korea.

After his college stint, Johnson embarked on a pro basketball career that saw him take brief stints with the Windy City Bulls, the Iowa Wolves and Motor City Cruise in the G League.

The 6-foot-9 Johnson was also part of the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Summer League back in 2019.

He’d later play overseas, taking his act to Uruguay in 2023, the T1 League in Taiwan, where he helped the Taipei Taishin Mars to a runner-up finish behind former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins’ Taiwan Bears in 2024.

Johnson also saw action for Hapoel Hafia in Israel in 2024 and shortly thereafter, with Yalovaspor Basketbol in Turkey from 2024 to 2025.  The Elasto Painters hopes Johnson’s size and inside presence could finally, carry the franchise back to the finals, and more importantly, help ROS end its 10-year PBA title drought.
