Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has firmly rejected claims that she played any role in the political downfall of her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, following his latest conviction and additional prison sentence linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case. Speaking after the High Court imposed a further 15-year jail term on Najib, Rosmah said the accusations directed at her were unfounded and did not reflect the reality known to those closest to the former prime minister.
Rosmah indicated that she had chosen not to engage with parties who continued to blame her for Najib’s fate. According to her, family members and close friends were well aware of the true circumstances surrounding the case and understood events beyond the narratives circulated publicly. She maintained that these inner circles knew what had transpired behind the scenes, regardless of how the situation had been portrayed externally.
Following the court’s rejection of Najib’s bid for home detention and the imposition of an additional sentence, Rosmah expressed sadness over reactions that appeared to celebrate her husband’s imprisonment. She said it was deeply hurtful to witness people taking pleasure in the suffering of her family. In her view, even strong dislike or political opposition did not justify rejoicing over another family’s hardship.
With Najib now facing multiple convictions related to 1MDB, Rosmah acknowledged that the legal road ahead remained uncertain. If all appeals were ultimately unsuccessful, Najib would be expected to complete his sentence and return home only in 2043. Despite this possibility, Rosmah said she remained committed to standing by her husband, offering unwavering moral support through prayer and faith.
She explained that her daily life had changed significantly since Najib’s incarceration. Now largely confined to home, Rosmah said her main focus was caring for her grandchildren and maintaining close family ties. She added that she was fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends and relatives who continued to provide strength during what she described as a prolonged and painful period.
Rosmah also spoke about the importance of resilience, saying she believed staying strong was what her husband would want from her. She described faith-based practices, including prayer and Quran recitation, as central to helping her endure the emotional strain. According to her, these practices provided comfort and a sense of purpose as the family navigated the consequences of the court’s decisions.
She further shared that Najib’s absence had been especially difficult for the family’s youngest members. The grandchildren, she said, remained close to their grandfather in spirit and frequently asked about him. Rosmah explained that the family made a conscious effort to protect them emotionally while sharing what they could in an age-appropriate way.
Meanwhile, Najib’s son, Nizar Najib, has also expressed disappointment with the ruling, saying the family felt there was little room left to defend themselves. The case continues to draw national attention as legal proceedings and appeals unfold following the December 2025 verdict.
