Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has spoken openly following the conviction of her husband, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case, expressing sorrow over reactions that appeared to celebrate her family’s suffering. Her remarks were shared during a special interview conducted at her residence and reported on December 29, 2025.
Rosmah conveyed deep disappointment at seeing certain political figures react positively to Najib’s conviction, saying such responses added to the emotional burden already faced by her family. She indicated that while she understood the strong feelings many held toward her husband and herself, taking pleasure in another family’s hardship crossed a moral line. According to her, moments of personal trial should not become occasions for public jubilation.
She also addressed persistent claims that she was responsible for Najib’s political downfall, firmly rejecting the accusation. Rosmah said these narratives did not reflect reality and added that she continued to draw strength from family members and close friends who understood the situation beyond public perception. Their support, she noted, had been crucial in helping her endure the prolonged period of scrutiny and criticism.
In reflecting on her current priorities, Rosmah said her focus had shifted almost entirely to her family. She explained that much of her daily life now revolved around caring for her grandchildren and maintaining close family bonds, while placing her trust in faith. She shared the view that justice and truth ultimately rested with God and would reveal themselves in time, adding that spiritual practices had become central to her routine. As a wife, she said, praying for her husband remained a constant part of her life.
Rosmah also clarified that she had chosen to withdraw from public commentary and involvement in matters related to governance. She explained that continuing to voice opinions often led to misinterpretation or accusations of interference, regardless of intent. To avoid further controversy or slander, she said she preferred to remain silent and stay away from public affairs.
When asked about Najib’s personal regrets, Rosmah said the greatest pain for him was missing the opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow up. She explained that many family milestones had passed without his presence, a loss felt deeply by the entire family. According to her, the grandchildren frequently asked about their grandfather, and the family made efforts to protect them emotionally while keeping his memory alive in their lives. Despite the circumstances, Rosmah said she remained determined to stay composed and resilient for the sake of her family.
