The Royal Family has celebrated Father's Day today by posting a photo of King Charles with Prince Philip.

The photo, taken as the then-Prince of Wales received his wings at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire, August 20, 1971, depicts the pair smiling in a truly heartwarming moment.

"Celebrating all Fathers, and thinking of those who wish they could be with their Dads, today," the post was captioned.

Prince Philip died in 2021, aged 99.

Last year, King Charles and Queen Camilla shared touching tributes to their fathers.

One photo showed Prince Philip pushing a very young Prince Charles and Princess Anne on a swing, while Camilla shared a snap alongside her father, army officer and businessman Major Bruce Shand, on the day of her wedding to the then Prince Charles.

Coincidentally, Father's Day this year occurs on the same day as Prince William's 44th birthday.

Kensington Palace released a rare, unseen photo of the Prince of Wales alongside his 11-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte, hours after last week's Trooping the Colour celebration.

Underneath the picture, the message reads: "Happy birthday and Father’s Day to the best Papa in the World!

"We love you very much."

It was signed off by Catherine, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

The heartwarming image was captured by Matt Porteous.

William has previously opened up on parenthood, saying: "You realise how precious life is and it puts it all in perspective."

He also described fatherhood as "life-changing" and "emotional".

However, when speaking to the Daily Mail previously, William did admit that he can be responsible for the school runs – though the Princess of Wales "probably does the bulk of it".

The importance of speaking openly about mental health and feelings with his children is something William has also championed.

"I get all the details, which I love," he told the BBC.

"It’s amazing. Being able to understand it, have time with it, decipher it."

The future King first became a father after the birth of Prince George on July 22, 2013, in the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

Two years later, on May 2, 2015, Princess Charlotte was born, and Prince Louis completed the trio on April 23, 2018.
