KBS expects the live F1 broadcast on RTM to attract younger Malaysians to the sport and let those unable to attend at Sepang enjoy the race together.
THE live broadcast of the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix (GP) Formula 1 (F1) race in Malaysia via Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is expected to generate greater public interest in motorsports, according to the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS).
The ministry said in a statement today that the initiative could also attract greater interest in the sport among the younger generation, while strengthening public engagement in celebrating the hosting of international sporting events in the country.
“This live broadcast gives all Malaysians the opportunity to experience the excitement and thrill of Formula 1 racing together, particularly those who are unable to attend at the SIC (Sepang International Circuit).
“The initiative is aimed at ensuring that the hosting of this world-class sporting event can be enjoyed more widely by people across the country,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, KBS also expressed its appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his commitment to ensuring that the excitement of the race could be shared with all Malaysians, as well as to the Communications Ministry and RTM for their cooperation in making the live broadcast possible.
Earlier, the Prime Minister announced that the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain GP Formula 1 (F1) race in Malaysia would be broadcast live on RTM, enabling people across the country to enjoy the excitement of the world-class race together.
The 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain F1 GP race will take place at SIC from today until Sunday.
SIC has been selected to host the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain F1 GP, making the iconic circuit a temporary venue for the prestigious Bahrain race.
Last July, Formula 1 confirmed Malaysia as the host venue for the race following an agreement between Formula 1, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), and the governments of Malaysia and Bahrain.
