MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala walked over Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse who retired during their second-round (round of 64) clash in the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open at the Tony Trabert Stadium 3 early Sunday in Manila.
Eala held a 6-1, 3-0 lead before play was suspended due to inclement weather.
The match did not require resumption as Ruse retired, enabling Eala's third-round entry.
Ruse had taken a medical timeout before play was suspended, nursing her right foot.
Eala thus avenged her 6-3, 1-6, 4-6 to the Ruse at the 2024 US Open third round qualifiers.
