PERKESO to provide benefits to families of three RXZ Member 8.0 participants killed in crashes, while one injured rider also receives aid
KUALA LUMPUR: The next of kin of three RXZ Member 8.0 participants killed in road accidents on July 31 and Aug 1 will receive benefits from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), while another participant who was injured is also covered under the scheme.
In a statement today, PERKESO said its Prihatin Squad’s verification found that the four participants, aged between 20 and 47, were active contributors under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).
The first case involved 44-year-old Mohd Fauzi Othman, who was killed when the motorcycle he was riding lost control and crashed at KM184.9 of the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) while travelling towards Terengganu on July 31.
“The contributions made throughout his working years have entitled Mohd Fauzi’s widow and five children to Funeral Management Benefits (FMB) and Survivors’ Pension under the Invalidity Scheme,” the statement said.
PERKESO said the dependants are entitled to a one-off RM3,000 FMB and a monthly Survivors’ Pension of RM1,794.58 under the Invalidity Scheme, allocated based on their respective shares.
The pension will continue to be paid to the widow for the rest of her life, while the children are entitled to the benefit until the age of 21 or upon completing their first undergraduate degree.
The dependants of Zulkanain Mat Said, 39, who was killed in an accident in Gambang on July 31, are also entitled to a one-off RM3,000 FMB and a monthly Survivors’ Pension of RM1,840.13 under the scheme, based on their respective shares.
Meanwhile, the dependants of Muhammad Shahrul Mohd Sabri, 20, who was killed in a crash at KM258.6 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) while travelling towards Terengganu on Aug 1, are entitled to FMB and Dependants’ Benefits under the LINDUNG 24 Protection Scheme.
“Being an active contributor to the LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme under Act 4, his family is entitled to a one-off RM3,000 FMB and a monthly pension under the Dependants’ Benefits,” it said.
PERKESO said that since Muhammad Shahrul had not married, the RM3,000 FMB would be paid directly to his next of kin, while the RM1,115.10 monthly Dependants’ Benefits would be shared among his parents for life and three siblings until the age of 21.
PERKESO said the total Dependants’ Benefits payable to the family over a minimum period of 20 years is estimated at more than RM260,000.
Durulmaizi Salamon, 47, who sustained shoulder and right leg injuries in a crash at KM294 of the LPT2 in Kemaman on July 31, is entitled to Temporary Disablement Benefits as well as reimbursement for medical expenses and the duration of his sick leave.
PERKESO said Durulmaizi’s husband, who was killed in the same crash, did not qualify for benefits as he was not a contributor. However, the case has been referred to relevant agencies under the Social Synergy initiative.
PERKESO urged the public to remain vigilant while travelling and secure coverage under LINDUNG 24 Jam to safeguard themselves and their families should accidents occur outside working hours.
