Sabah club return with nine golds

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Hang Loong Taekwondo Club captured nine golds, four silvers and one bronze at the Wu Kwon Taekwondo Championship held at the Johor Velodrome Hall, Iskandar Puteri, recently.

Eight of the gold medals came from the poomsae event through Avril Corbett Lojingon (speed kicking and poomsae individual 9-11 female A), Aleister Xavier Ng Zhen Xi (9-11 individual male), Elsa Virgil Koay Jia Hui (9-11 years individual female), Leonard Xavier/Daphne Effieny Koay Jia Yi (mixed doubles), Allyson Ashley Ng Zhi Xin (12-14 girls’ singles), Alexis Callie Ng Zhi Xuan (15-17 boys’ singles) and Joey Reigner Ginajim/ Sherrielyn Anne Sylor (15-17 mixed team), while the other gold was won by Nur Faghilah Wong in the kyorugi event (15-17 female).

The silver medallists were Leonard (poomsae 9-11 years old male individual), Daphne Effieny (poomsae 9-11 years old female individual), Sherrielyn Anne Sylor (poomsae 15-17 years old individual female), Jasnaiah Jade Gordon Mani (kyorugi 15-17 years old male) and the only bronze delivered by Joey Reigner (poomsae individual boys 15-17).

Club president Roger Chaw said their eight-gold haul in the poomsae event also saw them emerge second best overall in the event.

The team was represented by 17 athletes accompanied by Master Ervin Ambu, coach Alex Emmanuel Siaw and Natahali Abigai Justin.
