Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah government is exploring avenues to secure high-quality cattle breeds to bolster the state's beef industry, said Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar.
Jamawi said this during a working visit to a cattle farm in Brisbane, Australia, accompanied by Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Director Dr Zul Bahar Abdul Rashid to evaluate potential cattle breeding programmes for the state.
He said the initiative aims to facilitate cattle breeding in Sabah and supply top-grade calves to local breeders who have completed cattle-rearing courses.
According to him, successful breeders will be provided with quality stock known for high meat yield, which has the potential to generate better returns for them in the future.
He added that securing quality breeds aligns with the state government's commitment to empowering the livestock sector while raising breeders' productivity and income.
