TAWAU: Sabah is keen to bid for the hosting rights of the 2032 Malaysia Games (Sukma), leveraging its experience as host in 2002 to spur further development of sports infrastructure in the State.
Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Development Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (pic) said the intention was not a secret and had been made known to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who responded positively.
He said the proposal had also been informally conveyed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, but details must first be presented to the State Cabinet before further action is taken.
Nizam said Sarawak hosted Sukma in 2024 and Kelantan will host in 2028, with Sabah targeting the 2032 edition.
He added the proposal would be brought to the State Cabinet for support, while he continues visiting sports complexes statewide to ensure facilities meet the required standards for hosting Sukma.
