Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FA’s women’s team advanced to the final of the Women National League after a convincing 2-0 victory over Red Eagles SC in the semifinals at the MBSJ Arena in Subang Jaya on Saturday.
It was the second victory over the Kedah team after their final group stage clash at Likas Stadium, where Sabah cruised to a 3-0 win.
Sabah FA opened the match in an aggressive, attacking mood, forcing the Red Eagles onto the back foot to absorb the early pressure.
After several missed opportunities, South Korean import Sebin An, who was named woman of the match, scored the breakthrough opener right before the first half whistle by pouncing cleanly on a pass from Rocill Yeka Lole following a corner kick.
Sabah FA’s top scorer, Enzi Broussard, doubled the lead in the 56th minute, smashing home a powerful close-range strike from a Misaki Nakayama pass to seal the dominant victory.
Head coach Bobby Gonzales praised his players’ relentless effort following the victory.
“Alhamdulillah for tonight’s victory. We started the match with great intensity, creating several strong chances before successfully scoring just before the end of the first half.
“We kept the pressure on in the second half, pushing forward to secure our second goal.
“Huge thanks to the hard work and dedication of every single player in the team, we have made it to the final,” he said.
Sabah FA will next face the winner of Sunday’s second semifinal clash between Selangor FC and Kelana United in the final scheduled on October 31.
