Kota Kinabalu: Sabah improved their medal haul to 59 golds, 41 silvers and 32 bronzes on day four of the 2026 Para Sukma Games, but fell further behind hosts Selangor in the overall standings.
At press time, Selangor continued to pull away with a commanding 69 gold, 41 silver and 42 bronze medals, putting an end to the previous day’s neck-and-neck battle for the lead.
Defending champions Sarawak followed in third with a 42-27-44 medal count.
Although their chances of winning the overall title are slim, the State contingent is poised to reach its 66-gold medal target as the Games conclude today (Thursday).
Meanwhile, swimming and athletics continue to emerge as the biggest gold medal contributors for Sabah at the Games on Wednesday.
In the pool, Ethan Khoo (50m backstroke S14 and 200m individual medley SM14) and Abd Halim Mohammad (50m and 100m freestyle S9) led the charge with a golden double, while the other winners were Wahyu Eqwal Nazrey (50m backstroke S5) and Jonathan Wong (200m freestyle S4/5).
Over on the track and field, the gold medal winners were Doriah Paulus (javelin F44/54), Frederica Jorey (javelin F41), Ivan Jovic Suan (100m T42/43/44), Fredechi Asri (javelin F40), Mukhriz Ameer Izzudin Abd Rauf (100m T47), Adelleein Martin (discus throw F44/64), Shamli Waidi (discus throw F35/36) and Jericho Hedryld Harry (javelin F46), while Mohd Fauzan Ramlan (-107kg) delivered the first gold for weightlifting.
Swimming and athletics once again produced the highest number of silver and bronze medals for the team.
The silver medallists were Shahafiq Abdullah (50m freestyle S8), Sharlinie Valerie Voo (100m breaststroke SB6/8), Lyksther Elvenzo Oswold (100m backstroke S10) and Ethan Khoo (200m freestyle S14) in swimming, while in athletics the silver medal winners were Jacklon Ganding (100m T37), Mohd Hanif Burhanudin (discus throw F44/64), Elvsius John (shot put F56/57) and Mariana Sandra Roger (javelin F44/64).
The others were Lowell Terry Raynord ( lawn bowls -singles B3), Maxmalcolm Symond (weightlifting +107kg), Mohd Isa Mad Lasah and Muhd Haiqal Azani Azman (tenpin bowling doubles TPB2+TPB2-mix/open).
The bronze medals were won by Farah Harlini Anisah Mohd Tajuddin (boccia individual BC1), Paijol Benhar (100m T46), Connie Zeno (javelin F40), Nelson Sevilin (100m T36) and Mohd Nizamuddin Matahir (long jump T38) in athletics, and Nursuhailah Rudi (100m breaststroke SB14), the 4x100m freestyle S14 team and the 4x100m freestyle 34 points team from swimming.
