Sabah readies over 200 flood shelters ahead of monsoon

KOTA KINABALU – A total of 223 temporary shelters in Sabah have been identified as the state gets ready for the year-end monsoon season.

State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya said these centres will be able to house more than 124,000 victims.

“This is part of preparations in facing the northeast monsoon, which is expected to hit the country, including Sabah, at the end of this month until March next year.”

He told reporters during the closing ceremony of the temporary shelter simulation in Penampang here today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has been issuing intermittent warnings of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across the country this month. – The Vibes, October 25, 2022
