
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s armwrestlers kept up their status as a powerhouse in the country by winning the overall trophy in the just concluded Asia Armwrestling Championship held at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya last weekend.
They contributed 12 gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals to Malaysia’s total haul of 31 golds, 45 silvers and 30 bronzes in the two-day competition.
Calveen Petrus competing in the senior’s +105kg was the hero in the contingent by taking the left hand overall category in addition to two gold medals.
The other medal winners were Joffey Jolly (Senior 70kg - 2 golds); Jolly Johnson (Grandmaster 86kg - 2 golds); Dick Junior Daniel (Junior U-15 78kg - 2 golds); Esmond Ampilah (Grandmaster 95kg - 1 gold, 1 silver); Ferlven Su (Junior U-21 95kg - 1 gold, 1 silver); Elson Henry (Junior U-18 57kg - 1 gold, 1 silver); Calvin Anderson (Junior U-21 63kg - 1 gold, 1 bronze); Jumestalon Chong Jun (Junior U-21 70kg - 2 silvers); Nickelson Rony (Senior 105kg - 1 silver, 1 bronze); Alvian Ally (Senior 57kg - 1 silver, 1 bronze); Damsi Abdullah (Senior 95kg - 1 silver); Wayner Weew Oliver (Junior U-18 63kg - 1 silver); Jivander Lonni (Senior 86kg - 2 bronzes); Mickey Cheah (Senior 63kg - 1 bronze); Eddie Joe Justin (Masters 70kg - 1 bronze) and Elvin Edwin (Junior U-18 63kg - 1 bronze).
