KOTA KINABALU: Former senator Datuk John Ambrose praised the Sabah government’s proactive approach to solving the state’s energy challenges, calling it a clear and credible vision for Sabah’s future.
He said caretaker Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun’s energy roadmap was a “reassuring step forward” that prioritises energy stability, sustainability, and economic growth.
“What Masidi laid out is not just a plan, but a promise to the people of Sabah. It proves why Sabahans should continue supporting the GRS-PH administration," he said.
Masidi recently detailed the state’s twin-track energy strategy boosting renewable sources like solar and hydropower while allowing industrial zones to develop their own Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
John said the move reduces grid pressure and attracts investors, signalling that “Sabah is serious about energy reform.”He noted that despite energy generation still being under federal control through Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the state government has shown leadership by passing three major energy bills to prepare for full regulatory control.
“This is a government that acts, not just talks. They’ve passed laws, drafted SE-RAMP 2040, and are preparing to take over SESB. That’s the kind of leadership Sabah needs,” he said.
John added that GRS-PH’s long-term goal of a low-carbon, energy-resilient Sabah by 2040 is timely, urging voters to support the coalition to ensure the state’s energy reforms continue.
