Kota Kinabalu: Legal advisor to the Sabah Government, Datuk Tengku Fuad said it is important for Sabah and Sarawak to lead in legislating carbon laws as both East Malaysian states have power over land matters.

Tengku Fuad is also a member of the Interim Committee on Climate Change, chaired by Technical Advisor (Forestry) to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Sam Mannan, who is answerable solely to Datuk Hajiji Noor on forestry and carbon matters.

Fuad was responding to a Daily Express question on how Sabah should react or reconcile with the intention of the Federal government to legislate on carbon trading for the whole country in an effort to standardise such matters.
