Sabah spending more than RM1bil on water supply projects: CM

SEMPORNA: The State Government is spending more than RM1 billion on water supply projects across Sabah as part of intensified efforts to resolve long-standing infrastructure problems inherited from previous administrations, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Speaking after officiating at the launch of 106 completed two-storey shoplots under Phase 1 and the groundbreaking ceremony for Phases 2 and 3 of the Housing and Town Development Board (LPBB) commercial project at Jalan Bubul on Tuesday, Hajiji said two or three major water projects would be completed soon, including one by the end of this year.

He noted that progress on the Tawau water project has reached between 50 and 60 per cent, while pipe replacements are ongoing across most districts to address widespread leakages, water theft, and related issues.

Dismissing political criticism over supply disruptions, Hajiji maintained that the issue did not originate under his administration, adding that the State Government remains committed to completing the projects for the benefit of the people.

Touching on the LPBB commercial development, which will also include a jetty built by relevant quarters, he said the initiative aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan to stimulate local economic growth, support tourism, and generate jobs through investor-friendly policies.
