Sabah welcomes serious investors: CM

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah welcomes serious investors to establish win-win partnerships as the State advances its economic transformation and commitment to sustainable development, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.

In a speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun at the Sabah Asia-Pacific Impact Investing for Sustainable Development Summit on Monday, Hajiji said Sabah had evolved from an economy rooted primarily in the primary sectors into a multifaceted powerhouse and remained open for business.

He said the Summit provided a timely platform to promote impact investing that delivers measurable social and environmental benefits alongside financial returns, while encouraging investors to combine expertise, experience and funding to support inclusive social and ecological development.

Hajiji said Sabah had long prioritised environmental conservation through policies and land stewardship, noting that almost 30 per cent of the State's landmass is under Totally Protected Areas and that Sabah continues to maintain its status as a net carbon sink based on greenhouse gas inventory data supported by its extensive forest cover.

He said the State remained committed to meeting its development needs through improved infrastructure, utilities and economic opportunities while ensuring sustainability remained the foundation of long-term growth, and thanked the George Town Institute of Open and Advanced Studies (GIOAS) at Wawasan Open University and the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry for jointly organising the Summit.
