Everything is set for the Mindanao leg of this year's Indigenous Peoples (IP) Games to be hosted by the municipality of San Agustin in Surigao del Sur this weekend.
Presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the annual event aims to promote the culture of indigenous people with the holding of traditional games in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
It was San Agustin Mayor Nicolas Alameda himself who visited the PSC office and offered to host the event this year, signifying a growing interest among LGUs to get involved with the IP Games.
Surigao del Sur Gov. Johnny Pimentel is also throwing his support to the event slated on Aug. 23-25 with more than 300 indigeneous people divided into five clusters participating this year.
The PSC is also partnering with the National Commission on Indigeneous People (NCIP) for the program.
PSC commissioner Fritz Gaston, whose office oversees the IP Games, will be on hand at the opening ceremonies set on Saturday morning.
