Southwest monsoon to dump more rain — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — More rain will fall as the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to affect Luzon and the western part of Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) said Sunday.

Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda-Carpio said occasional to heavy rain was possible in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan. She said heavy rain may also drench Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Batanes, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. She cautioned the public about possible flooding and landslides.

The rest of Luzon and western Visayas will have scattered rain showers.

She said that 50 to 100 millimeters of rain may fall until Monday afternoon in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, and Zambales.

Pagasa is monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The LPA spotted 1,385 kilometers east of central Luzon will enter PAR tonight and could intensify into a cyclone while the other, last seen 2,395 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon was unlikely to intensify into a tropical cyclone, Castañeda-Carpio said.
