
Kota Kinabalu: Sandakan clinched the tennis men’s team title in the 10th Sabah Games after defeating host Kota Kinabalu 3-0 in the final.
Their first point was delivered by Stevie Alfie Silvester in the first singles after he thrashed Danish Afif Aziz 6-1, 6-0 and the second from the doubles siblings Rishigeswaran and Sharrvineswaran Uigneswaran with a straight sets victory over Alan Irfan and Mohd Fareed 6-4, 6-3 before Mohd Asyahmie Haffizie Suhaili delivered the winning point with a three-set 6-1, 0-6, 10-8 win over Samuel Guansing in the second singles.
Team manager Silvester Lawai said their women’s team also did well to win a bronze.
He praised the players’ fighting spirit and he expects they will deliver more medals in the coming individual events.
