Sandra Bullock remembers nothing of Oscar win due to ‘hiding a newborn’

Sandra Bullock has revealed that she remembers "nothing" about winning her Academy Award in 2010 because she was "hiding a newborn" at the time.

The film star, 62, won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance as Leigh Anne Tuohy in the sports biopic The Blind Side.

Behind the scenes, Bullock was secretly looking after her newly adopted infant son, Louis. Asked what she remembered about her win during an interview on Live With Kelly And Mark, Bullock replied: "Nothing."

Host Kelly Ripa replied: "Nobody does."

Bullock said: "Well, I had maybe two hours of sleep? I was hiding a newborn. No-one knew I had Lou, and he had acid reflux, so he slept only every two hours. So I don’t remember much of the night."

Despite the magnitude of the accolade, Bullock admitted she was mostly desperate to get back home to her baby. She said: "But I do know that I wanted to get home because I wanted to do the feeding, because I knew who was there with him was probably struggling."

The actor added that she struggled to get out of her evening dress upon returning home.

She said: "I was there in the dress, and I couldn’t get out of the dress, so I just sat in the dress with Lou. [The] Oscar was on the floor and Lou was on my lap. It was the best way to have that night because it was so overwhelming in general. I think it would have been more overwhelming had I not been so tired. I just wanted to go home."

Ripa’s husband and co-host Mark Consuelos enquired what attendees thought when she departed early.

She replied: "I couldn’t leave the Oscars early. We went to the after-party, and then we had to wait to get the little name put on there.

"I was like, ‘Can we just hurry up the name?’ Then we said ‘Hi,’ and then I took off." They all thought, ‘Oh, she’s tired. She’s tired.’ And I was tired, but I just wanted to get home to a little person that no-one knew about."

Louis began living with Bullock in January 2010, but she did not publicly confirm his adoption until April, the month she filed for divorce from her husband, Jesse James.

Bullock brought up Louis, now 16, as a single mother and later adopted her daughter Laila, now 13.

The actor was in a relationship with photographer Bryan Randall from 2015 until his death from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2023.
