"We have the numbers" used to be Anwar's mantra. Now, Sanusi MB of Kedah is into using the phrase to mock the man once closely identified with the mantra.

Recently, while speaking at the launch of the Perikatan National’s (PN) election machinery in Kedah, the MB asked, “Why is he (Anwar) so afraid? Because he knows we have the figures numbers?), right? If he doesn’t deny it, people might think it’s just a rumour.”

Everyone in PN seems to be talking about it. But what numbers are they talking about because Anwar knows he has two thirds majority in Parliament and need not worry about being toppled.

It defies logic for PN to dethrone PMX unless of course, they have a secret weapon that nobody except Sanusi and company seems to know.

What secret weapon?

Some say PN could align itself with a splinter group within UMNO that has as many as 12 MPs loyal to a previous leader.

Let's continue defying logic even further. Let's assume that these 12 would stand together in Parliament to call for a vote of no confidence. It's still not enough to knock off 148 MPs who are on the government's side.

Rumours have it that the opposition has 126, the magic number. You cannot believe that. The 12 UMNO MPs loyal to the former plus PN's own still does not measure up.

They would need a block from East Malaysia to move a motion of no confidence against PMX and that would need more than just a promise because Anwar has granted a great deal to them including a deputy premiership.

Apparently they are asking for more and PMX may likely agree to their demands.

So, that leaves PN without much to bargain for with the two states unless of course Sanusi knows of other ways to buy votes. That too is a secret for now.

Meanwhile, Sanusi is not disclosing much just mocking PMX mimicking him reminding of days after GE14 when Anwar did say time and again that he  had the numbers to form a government then.

However, PMX has to hold his grounds not to be overly jumpy about this kind of provocative moves from the likes of Sanusi.

Otherwise, the statesmanship that we long to see in Anwar will be overshadowed by anger and irritation as a result of too much noise from the chatter box of PN. Why give them the credit?
