KUCHING, Oct 21 — Sarawak police are investigating an incident in which a 16-year-old male student allegedly injured a female teacher with an axe at a private school here this morning.

Sarawak acting police commissioner Datuk Saifullizan Ishak said police received information about the incident through the MERS 999 emergency line at about 8.03am today, after the Kuching district police headquarters control centre was alerted to a student allegedly carrying firecrackers and injuring a teacher.

The teacher reportedly sustained cuts to her hand.

In a statement today, Saifullizan said the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.

He said police were conducting a detailed investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and gather relevant evidence.

Police also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information about the case, in order to respect the investigation and protect the interests of all parties involved.

A video allegedly showing a livestream of the attack has also been widely circulated online.
