The Sant Seechewal Water Sports Centre, operating on the banks of the holy Kali Bein since 2014, has added another proud achievement to its growing list of successes. Two of its players, Rohitpreet Singh, who has joined the Punjab Battalion and Harshdeep Singh, who has been recruited into the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army, visited Nirmal Kutia, Sultanpur Lodhi, to seek blessings from environmentalist and Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal following their selection.

Congratulating the young recruits, MP Balbir Singh Seechewal said that their achievement is the result of dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment to sports. He noted that although Punjab is blessed with abundant water resources, water sports have not received the recognition they deserve. To bridge this gap, the Sant Seechewal Water Sports Centre was established in 2014 along the holy Kali Bein, offering free training in swimming, canoeing, kayaking and dragon boat racing.

Sharing his journey, Rohitpreet Singh said that serving in the Indian Army had been his childhood dream. He credited the training received at the Sant Seechewal Water Sports Centre for strengthening both his physical fitness and mental resilience. He said that the free coaching, dedicated trainers and constant motivation from Sant Seechewal enabled him to compete at the national level, win medals and scholarships and ultimately achieve his goal of joining the Army.

He also encouraged young people to stay away from drugs and actively participate in sports.

Harshdeep Singh described his recruitment into the Indian Army as the realisation of his life’s biggest ambition. He stated that the achievements and fitness gained through water sports played a crucial role in helping him succeed during the recruitment process. He urged the youth to embrace sports as a pathway to a brighter and more successful future.

Praising Coach Amandeep Singh and his team, Sant Seechewal said their relentless efforts have opened doors of opportunity for children from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He added that Nirmal Kutia provides athletes with essential sports equipment, boats, gym facilities and other resources to ensure that no talented child is deprived of opportunities due to financial constraints.

Expressing confidence in the future of the young athletes training along the sacred Kali Bein, Sant Seechewal said they would continue to bring pride to Punjab and the nation while serving as role models for future generations.
