Seized items showed no suspicious elements in Zara’s death, inquest told

Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday that seized photographs, audio recordings, and the clothes worn by Zara Qairina Mahathir provided no useful evidence to aid the probe into her death.

Inspector Wong Yew Zhung, the 83rd and final witness in the inquest, testified before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan that his investigations revealed nothing suspicious surrounding the incident.

Wong said several mobile phones were seized during the investigation, but an examination of the stored photographs and audio recordings between Zara and her mother showed they were ordinary and offered no relevant leads.

Under questioning by counsel Shahlan Jufri, the investigating officer said he could only establish Zara’s character based on statements recorded from her mother and friends.

Wong added that while Zara’s clothing was seized after she was found beneath her hostel building and taken to hospital, the items were unnecessary to the probe and he could not recall the exact date of their seizure.
