Kota Kinabalu: A police investigator told the Coroner’s Court on Wednesday that findings showed no elements of murder or being pushed in the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Inspector Wong Yew Zhung, the 83rd and final witness testifying before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, said his investigation revealed nothing suspicious surrounding the 13-year-old’s death.
Questioned by counsel Joan Goh on the possibility of accidental death, Wong stated that such determinations should be referred to a pathology expert.
Wong, who confirmed interviewing 200 individuals and examining Zara’s family background and relationships, agreed with counsel that there was no motive for anyone to forge the teenager’s handwriting in her diary and 15 sheets of paper tendered in his statement.
Zara was found unconscious near a hostel drain on July 16, 2025, and died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital the following day, after which five teenagers were charged in the Court for Children on Aug 20 in connection with the case.
