‘Seized photos, recordings, clothing not useful’

THE Investigating Officer in Zara Qairina Mahathir’s case told the Coroner’s Court that photographs, audio recordings between Zara and her mother, and the clothes she wore when she was found unconscious did not assist his investigation.

Inspector Wong Yew Zhung, the 83rd and final witness in the inquest, testified before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan on Wednesday that his investigation had found nothing suspicious in Zara’s death.

He said several mobile phones had been seized to assist the investigation, and he had examined the photographs and audio recordings stored in them.

“They were ordinary photographs and audio recordings. Nothing could help me in the investigation,” he said.

Responding to a question from counsel Shahlan Jufri, Wong said he could only establish Zara’s character through statements given by her mother and friends.

He was also questioned about the clothes Zara wore when she was found beneath her hostel building and subsequently taken to hospital.

Wong said he recalled that the clothes had been seized following the incident but could not remember when the seizure took place.

“I can clarify that there was no need for the seizure. The clothes did not affect my investigation,” he testified.
