Road safety messages for Aidilfitri will be shown on 20 local council LED screens across Selangor to boost driver awareness during the festive season

SHAH ALAM: Road safety messages for the Aidilfitri celebration will be displayed on 20 LED screens owned by local authorities (PBT) across several municipal areas in Selangor. This initiative aims to enhance road user awareness during the festive season.

Deputy Chairman of the Selangor Road Safety Council (MKJR) Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi said the safety messages supplied by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) are being broadcast periodically. The screens are located in areas including Petaling Jaya, Selayang, Ampang Jaya, Kuala Selangor, Sepang and Kuala Langat.

He stated the collaboration with PBTs aims to disseminate safety reminders to the public more widely. This is particularly important during the increased traffic movement expected for Aidilfitri.

“In Selangor, the PBTs have LED screens for promotion and public announcements, so we are taking the opportunity to display road safety messages in their respective municipal areas,” he said.

He added that the JPJ-supplied message displays will run throughout the festive period. They will be shown regularly according to cycles set by the respective PBTs.

Mohd Yazid was speaking at a media conference for the Aidilfitri 2026 Road Safety Campaign. The event was held at the Section 17 Bus Terminal here last night.

Meanwhile, Selangor JPJ Director Azrin Borhan said his department is also conducting periodic inspections of buses at depots and terminals. This is to ensure vehicles are in a safe condition before travel.

He noted passenger awareness of seatbelt usage is improving. Bus drivers are giving reminders before journeys begin, complemented by covert monitoring by JPJ officers on buses.

Effective 1 July 2025, JPJ made seatbelt wearing mandatory for all drivers and passengers of express and tour buses. Failure to comply can result in a RM300 compound.
