SHAH ALAM - Police are investigating the possibility that influence from certain communities or groups may have prompted a female student to stab her schoolmate at a school in Banting earlier this month.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations had led to the arrest of a 14-year-old suspect, who was later released after police found no link between the individual and the case.

"Investigations are focused on determining whether there were any communities or groups that may have influenced the suspect's actions.

"This may involve friends communicating in a WhatsApp group chat or exchanging opinions and suggestions that could have encouraged the suspect to act in such a manner.

"It does not involve individuals from the same school," he said during a press conference on the Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department's achievements at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

Shazeli said police were also conducting an internal investigation to determine how a note linked to the case was circulated on social media, as the document forms part of the case exhibits.

"I have also been informed that the victim was discharged from hospital on July 13 and is now undergoing recovery. Her condition is improving and she is being cared for by her family at home," he said.

On July 10, the media reported that a 15-year-old girl was charged at the Telok Datok Magistrate's Court in Kuala Langat with one count of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing her schoolmate at a secondary school in Banting.

No plea was recorded from the juvenile accused pending a psychiatric evaluation report. - BERNAMA
