SHAH ALAM, March 6 — The state government has provided RM500 in immediate aid to each family affected by the storm incident at Parit 4 in Sungai Burong, Tanjong Karang, this morning.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said they received reports that nearly 10 houses located near the paddy fields were severely damaged in the 7.30am incident.

“We understand that the storm lasted for 15 minutes. Some houses were severely damaged, with roofs blown away and other destruction. It is understood that there were no injuries, only property damage.

“We have conducted an inspection with the community leader, and emergency assistance from my office has also been provided to the affected victims,” he told Media Selangor.

Ng added that no temporary evacuation centres were opened as all victims remained in their homes, while some sought temporary shelter at relatives’ houses.

Speaking as the Tanjong Karang Parliamentary coordinator, he said that storms are a common annual occurrence as paddy fields are open and exposed areas.

“I hope all victims remain patient, and we will do our best to assist and provide aid until their homes can be repaired,” Ng said.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Movement Centre (PGO) confirmed that eight houses were destroyed due to the strong storm in Parit 4, Sungai Burong.

A JBPM PGO spokesperson said that firefighters from the Sekinchan Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 7.48am.

“We instructed local residents to evacuate the destroyed homes and gather at a safe location. Inspections were carried out, and there were no casualties or injuries,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
