Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has ordered an immediate check on the licensing and security measures of a Semporna resort following a reported incident involving a Chinese tourist.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin (pic) said visitor safety was a priority and any weaknesses found at the accommodation must be addressed immediately.
He welcomed the police arrest of a suspect and said the authorities should be allowed to investigate the case thoroughly without speculation.
Jafry said tourism authorities had been directed to inspect the accommodation and coordinate with relevant enforcement agencies where necessary.
“As we move towards Visit Sabah 2027, we will not compromise on visitor safety,” he said.
